Question
Customers may want to use what3words addresses or location codes in PTV Route Optimiser ST instead of traditional coordinates or postcodes. They ask whether the system supports what3words as an input format or if there is an integration available.
Answer
what3words is not currently supported by PTV Route Optimiser ST and there are no plans to implement this feature.
However, customers can work around this limitation: if their upstream systems (e.g., procurement, order management) can resolve what3words locations to standard coordinates, those coordinates can be provided and imported directly into PTV Route Optimiser ST. This approach allows addresses referenced by what3words to be optimized without requiring native what3words support in the system.
Additions hints
- what3words is a proprietary address system and is not part of the standard geocoding capabilities in PTV Route Optimiser ST.
- The system supports standard coordinate formats (latitude/longitude), postcodes, and street addresses depending on the regional data provider.
- If your customer base requires what3words support, this would require a feature request to the product team, but there is currently no roadmap item for this functionality.
