Symptom
The map display is slow, or CPU usage is unusually high when working with PTV Map&Guide – the next generation.
Cause
For rendering, PTV Map&Guide – the next generation uses WebGL, which is supported by default for graphics rendering in all common browsers. A GPU is recommended for rendering. However, in terminal server environments, a GPU is often not enabled or not available.
If GPU acceleration is missing, graphics must be computed by the CPU – this noticeably increases CPU load.
Check: Is the browser using a GPU?
- Open the Chrome browser.
- In the address bar at the top, enter
chrome://gpuand confirm with Enter. - Check the entries for WebGL and WebGPU:
- "Hardware accelerated" → GPU acceleration is active (ideal state).
- "Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable" → No GPU is available; graphics are being computed by the CPU.
Resolution
If "Software only, hardware acceleration unavailable" is displayed: Check together with your IT department whether a GPU can be enabled in your terminal server environment to reduce CPU load.
